IS IT POSSIBLE TO PUT WALLPAPER ON THE KITCHEN WALL?

The kitchen in our homes has changed significantly over the decades. Whereas in the past it was merely a functional area of the house in which to prepare meals, today it has become one of the focal points in which to receive visitors, try out new things as a novice chef or simply have a pre-dinner aperitif.

On the other hand, interior design has also changed over the years, and kitchen wallpaper has taken a leading role in the new times. Thanks to its many options, colours and textures, it can create a myriad of ambiences to suit your personality and that of your home.

7 questions and answers about wallpaper in kitchens

For all of the above reasons, today we would like to answer some of the questions you may have about wallpaper for decoration. We have come up with the seven most common ones that we have seen on the net so that you have no doubts.

What type of wallpaper is suitable for the kitchen?

The base layer can be either non-woven (TNT) or paper, as the outer layer is coated with a hydrophobic synthetic element that is easy to clean. For paper-based or non-woven wallpaper sheets, it is best to coat them with a water-resistant protective product.

How can kitchen wallpaper be washed?

Depending on the degree of permeability and sealing density of the wallpaper you have installed, you will have different options. Some wallpapers can only be cleaned with a dry sponge, as they trap moisture, but there are also washable wallpapers that can be cleaned with a damp cloth or even a mild soap solution. Synthetic coated wallpapers can be cleaned with brushes and mild cleaning products.

Can I make my wallpaper more washable?

Yes, but always take into account what type of wallpaper it is. It is usual to apply a liquid sealer to waterproof the surface of the wallpaper. It is applied with a roller and must dry completely before the kitchen can be used, as the vapours can cause it not to dry properly. However, there are some sensitive or delicate materials that cannot withstand this treatment, but it is very rare. Ask us if you have any questions.

Can wallpaper be laid on tiles?

Initially it is not possible, but it is possible if the area is properly prepared. Remember that the best adhesion is achieved on a uniform surface with adhesive capacity. You will have to cover all grout and cracks, polish the surface and clean all dust thoroughly. Afterwards, it will be necessary to apply dispersion adhesive, and it may even be advisable to apply lining paper before the wallpaper.

Can I use wallpaper as a splash guard?

If you want to protect your wall from splashes of water, oil or sauces, wallpaper can be a good option. But you can also install a protective glass or acrylic panel on your design wallpaper, although acrylic cannot be near heat sources.

Is cooking wallpaper flammable?

This is a very important aspect, as the kitchen is one of the most fire-prone areas in the house. There are wallpapers with low flammability that are perfect for this area, which comply with DIN 4102-1 with Fire Protection Class B1.

What styles can I choose for my kitchen wallpaper?

There are dozens of patterns and motifs to suit your décor and style. From modern wallpapers and imitation marble or tiles to rustic, vintage or retro designs. You also have options that imitate stone or brick, even some patterns with decorative fruits and vegetables.
